Anti Tacks
Although the basic rubber compounding processing principles are
common worldwide, the equipment used varies from plant to plant.
There are also the great number of formulations with different degrees
of tackiness to be considered. It is to accommodate these plant
and product variations that makes a range of anti tack types necessary.
It is not unusual for a factory to run different anti tacks for
different lines. At Stephenson Speciality Chemicals we therefore
view all applications as unique and look to customise our anti tacks
to meet specific individual requirements via our experienced technical
team.
The most common factors considered during the selction of an anti
tack are:
- Effectiveness of release
- Compound compatibility
- Surface appearance
- Effect on machinery
- Sedimentation
- Economy
- Cleanliness
- Foaming
Powder Products
The Alkon 9000 series of powder anti tacks is designed to be easily
dispersed in water by the customer prior to application. The products
provide good, even coatings on rubber compounds with minimum foaming
or sedimentation.
After Initial preparation the powder products work in a similar
way to the ready-made dispersions although the sedimentation characteristics
are generally better. Release properties are excellent and being
highly active materials offer greater economy regarding transport
and storage.
Dispersion Products
The Alkon 6000 series of ready-made dispersions offers a wide range
of products with different filler systems to suit customer demands
and compound compatibility.
The products offer excellent release on the treated compound once
further diluted with water. Products are available which give low
and high visibility coatings without compromising efficiency.
The dispersion range offers an alternative to those companies who
do not want to prepare their own dispersions from the powders but
it also offers more complex dispersions which are not available
in powder form.
Liquid Products
The Alkon 7000 series of liquid products offers a clean and efficient
range of products suited to most compounds. Manufactured from selected
fatty acids, the products offer a good balance between release,
wetting efficiency and film feel. Unlike the powders and dispersions,
the liquid products leave the surface of the compound completely
clear after application.
Latest products include water soluble film formers that are better
able to cope with the cold flow and stretch at the polymer surface
exhibited by softer compounds.
